We asked our Winter Coaches what they were excited about and what their goals for the season were. We have some amazing coaches who lead by example and continue to have high expectations for our athlete’s.
Anthony Sandoval, our Head Varsity Wrestling coach is very excited about the growth of his team and coaching staff. He hopes the competition will help develop pride in AHS again. He has been given many compliments on the growth and competitiveness of the wrestling program.
Coach Sandoval’s goals for the season are to make sure that other programs know that Arvada has been in the gym. He believes in small victories and getting better. If we have fun, the wins will come.
Vernon Whittington, our Head Boys Basketball coach id excited about the opportunity to coach his team for the second year. He feels he set laid a good foundation for what he wants the program to look like here at Arvada. He has retained 80% of his players from last year and continues to build on it!
Coach V, as the students call him, has set many goals. He would like to build on the overall team culture, become more competitive in games and practice and continue to build health habits throughout the year.
Jamie Thorson, our Head Girls Basketball coach, is excited to see her girls’ growth on and off of the court. She is always defining and filling roles while figuring them out. She loves when each player finds and fulfills their role in a game situation.
Coach Thorson’s goal this year is to be unified and play together. "We Work” is our their theme this year and they desire to out work their opponent in all game scenarios.
As you can see, we have coaches who are dedicated to their craft and the students they coach. Coaches, thanks for the hard work you do for our athlete’s in and out of the classroom.
